Before pressing your patch to an item, make sure you have the proper setting on your iron and that you are using medium to heavy pressure while pressing. Always use another piece of fabric between your patch and your iron to protect both pieces of fabric and the actual design of the patch. 

After pressing your patch, leave it alone until it is entirely cool. It takes more time and work to sew on patches. If you want your patch to look good and stay where you want it to stay, sew very evenly. Use a sewing machine sewn slowly around all curves. 

Where to Place Your Patches?

How you position your custom patches for clothes affects how your jacket looks overall.

When using large patches on the back of your jacket, it will give a strong visual. In contrast, using smaller patch placements (on chest or sleeve) creates a finer and creative visual.

For hats, the best placement is usually at the center of the front of the hat; specifically for logos.

Test placements before making anything long-lasting and test out different placements to see how they all fit together!

Many patch-related problems result from minor errors. 

Common design flaws include designing a patch that is too complex for its size. Secondly, we also miss considering how the color of the patch will contrast with the color of the clothing it is being placed on. 

Also, application errors lead to premature failure of the patch. If iron-on patches don’t get enough heat, it will cause problems. 

Finally, there can be issues related to compatibility between the fabric of the clothing being patched and the fabric of the patch. Some fabrics cannot handle heat very well when pressed against another fabric with a heat source. 

What Affects the Cost?

There are many factors which account for the price of a custom patch. Mainly, these factors include the number of patches you wish to order, its design and its size. 

Complex designs mean more work for the manufacturer (especially with embroidered patches), but unless you buy in bulk, the cost per patch generally gets lower with larger orders. 

On top of the cost, quality is another factor to consider. If you pay more for each patch, in the long run, these patches typically have a better quality and will last longer.
