A Guide To Selecting Your Ideal Patch Size
After choosing from our various options of patch types, the next step is selecting a perfect size for your taste. As these patches are meant to be as customized as you wish, there is no “wrong” size. There are however, a few guidelines that we would like to share with you–to not only make this process as easy and enjoyable as possible, but also to ensure that your patches look their best.
Typically bigger patches have a bolder and more striking appearance, one that surely catches the eye. These types of patches are usually more detailed and have a greater ability to show precision, leaving enough room for a wider scaled design. The material used in these patches tend to be more lively and attractive as they are more noticeable and visible on a larger patch. From our metallic threads, to embroidery, to glow in the dark, all would be perfect options for showcasing not only the details in your artwork, but the bright appearance of the material itself. One example for a great material type for a larger patch is the ever so popular and fashionable chenille thread– who’s fuzzy and animated appearance is sure to jazz up merchandise. These types of patches are seen to be significantly trending in streetwear, particularly hoodies and are the perfect tool to create a lasting impression. Generally, for left chest shirt/hoodie designs, larger patches tend to range from about 4 to 5 inches. Center chest designs for hoodies are extremely popular at a size of about 10 to 12 inches wide- particularly in streetwear.
Though smaller patches are just as fashionable, they tend to create a different impact on clothing and accessories. Depending on whether your artwork consists of just lettering and logos, or a detailed design will also be a key factor in choosing your patch size. In terms of size, considerably smaller patches are typically between 3 and 4 inches for a left chest design. Seeing as though small patches do not leave much room for exquisite detail, they are more useful to showcase compact logos and designs. They tend to uphold a classier and refined look, perfect for a subtle customized detail without taking up too much space. A simple pop of color or a company logo look great on smaller patches– particularly made of PVC. This material is perfect for a super clean and sleek look with a three dimensional effect, usually most popular with smaller patches.
For using patches on caps, depending on the placement, a smaller patch is more widely used by professional and company logos and is around 2 to 2.5 inches in width. This creates a more subtle appearance of the patch on the cap– leaving less room for details but overall a more sophisticated style. Whereas streetwear tends to trend towards slightly larger patches of a size around 3 to 3.5 inches, where a simple yet lively design can really shine.
