Choosing a patch type that fits your design’s details

While selecting a patch type that fits your preference, it is extremely important to be aware of the characteristics of the patch material. Each option provides different advantages to your design, allowing certain types to be a better fit for your artwork- varying on levels of details that can be showcased alongside texture, color options and price. We’ve created a guide, in order from which patch can allow the least detail to the highest level, to break down the reason behind these differences, so you can have your design shine on our patches.

Chenille

Wildly popular due to its cheerful fuzzy texture, chenille patches are also the option which will allow the least amount of detail to be showcased amongst our patch types. As a woven thread is stitched onto felt, the furry appearance also hinders its ability to highlight any fine features of your artwork or tiny and precise graphics. Chenille patches tend to look their best when used for bigger designs as they create a dynamic appearance. Similarly, these patches really excel when they are composed of solid colours or simple patterns (like our trendy camouflage print!) as they offer a backdrop to only a limited amount of blending and gradients.

Embroidered

In comparison to chenille patches, embroidered patches offer a much larger potential for detail and are hence an overall more adaptable patch to select for your design. Generally embroidered patches have the ability to display a decent level of details while upholding their classic and traditional feel. They also offer a good site for color gradients and blending– meaning your artwork has tons of options for colouring while using an embroidered patch.

A Mix of Embroidered and Chenille

A perfect balance between two of our most popular patches, so that you no longer have to make that difficult decision. Now you can receive a patch with the lively chenille texture while still getting a higher resolution of details in embroidered thread. These patches however, do not allow the option of fine details like embroidered patches, as the chenille thread tends to get pressed down and hidden. Still, a great choice for a mildly detailed patch with a colourful and fun texture.

Woven

These patches are perfect for a higher level of detail compared to embroidered patches. Woven patches maintain a great balance between the vintage patch look and the capacity to express smaller details and finer precision. However, while selecting this patch for your artwork, it is key to keep in mind that it does not offer a backdrop for color gradients and it creates a two dimensional appearance as it is a flat patch.

Hybrid

A patch created as a solution to choosing between the traditional embroidered patch and the detail oriented sublimation patch. Catering to those who love both options- these patches are the perfect midpoint so you no longer have to compromise your artwork to select a vintage-esque look. This hybrid choice offers you the best of both options, where you get the classic embroidered texture and the clean-cut and meticulous precision of a sublimated patch. The only drawback? Due to its ability to combine two of our patch options, the cost is a little steeper. Afterall, a perfect solution will always have a bigger price tag!

Sublimated

These patches offer you no limitations in terms of detail. No matter how small or precise some aspects of your artwork may be, these printed patches will capture it all. Your design will be exactly copied into the actual patch instead of sewed on, so expect meticulous precision. It is however imported to keep in mind that these patches are not three dimensional, so they are physically flat. Luckily, colour gradients look fabulous on sublimated patches, so your design can be elevated to an even more lively level.

Alternative options

Apart from our six amazing patch types, we still offer other solutions to make your artwork look as great as possible while keeping the level of details in mind.

A simplification of your design can provide you with more options to choose from or allow your artwork to look even better on your preferred patch material. We offer our own services to simplify your design (if you do not wish to do it yourself) as we want to make this process as easy and convenient as possible.

Change up the look completely by selecting PVC patches. These patches are increasingly popular as they offer a complete modern twist due to their impressive three dimensional appearance in a rubber patch. They give you the flexibility of choosing any level of precision as they maintain a meticulously clean cut look. Not to mention the added benefit of extreme durability even under harsh conditions!
